Lady Hawks lose to Billies in Hard-fought Match
Hawk Volleyball had its fans on the edge of their seats Friday night when they came up against the Lady Billies, losing 23-25, 25-18, 16-25 and 24-26.
“We played the absolute best game we could,” Senior Anna Bittersworth said.
The struggle began in the first game with each team answering the other’s points immediately. The Lady Hawks scored first in each of the three games played, holding the lead for two to three service rounds until the Lady Billies showed up at the net. Then began the “tit-for-tat” until Fredericksburg came out on top at the end of the first and third games.
Bittersworth, Faith Hasness, and Paige Bower were blocking and spiking machines with Bower leading the team in blocks and Bittersworth holding the Billies at bay with her 11 kills. Hasness had 35 assists and Amber Voigt had approximately the same digs. Eden Farley was also a master on the service line.
Though the girls spiked, blocked, dug and served everything they had back at Fredericksburg, they simply did not come out ahead.
No one seemed to have a bad game and each player on the court contributed to the score. Riley Mickey and Alysha Perez both were hard-spiking players at the net and Mariah Haight was a beast on the back line.
“We had that intensity to the very end even though we lost,” Bittersworth said, “We were much stronger this game. Everything we practiced showed up tonight.”
The loss does not move them out of second place in the district as Fredericksburg holds the first position.
Canyon Lake will play again, at 6p.m., Tuesday October 24 against Bandera.
