Canyon Lake’s Track & Field Team will be next on the Best Of Countdown. There are some liberties taken in doing a series of articles of this magnitude.
First, there will be those who felt other games should have been on the list and another subject is where on the list those events rank.
Second, it is hard to put track athletes as a team when so many of the components are based on individuals coming together for amassing points.
Third, is a simple idea that you only know what you saw and many of the sports do not have the whole Hawk Nation in tune with games that were not on anyones radar.
The Track Season came to a close as Canyon Lake failed to have any of their Region Meet qualifiers able to make another step to the State Meet held in Austin this week.
That is not to say that this year’s version of Track & Field was a flop, but a quite different sensation for the Hawk athletes as there were many firsts for this season that will make next year’s season a, ‘can’t wait’, aspect.
Track Regional Meet for the Guys
Canyon Lake will be taking 11 Hawksters to Region !V track meet to be held in Kingsville on April 28-29 for a chance for competing in State.
Competition will be tough for the Boys as there are several teams and athletes that have put up some good times and distances.
Track Regional Meet for the Ladies
Canyon Lake has had a few State qualifiers in the past and on the girls side, Marisa Ellis, not only made that final meet but came away as the High Jump Champion that season.
The Region Meet will be a two day event this April 28-29 in Kingsville, Texas.
Canyon Lake upgraded their vehicle from a Van to a Bus this year for Track & Field as the Hawks qualified 19 athletes and will be on the road for their next round in Kingsville on April 28-29.
The Hawk Ladies keep climbing as they finished in 2nd Place for the Area Meet and now have two Meets in a row where they have had their best ever finish.
Canyon Lake will be hosting the Area Track Meet this Wednesday as the Hawk Ladies will be searching a chance for another meet in Kingsville if they can qualify with a 4th place or better.
This Area Meet will consist of District 28-4A and District 27-4A schools after the athletes qualified with a 4th or better time, throw, or jump in their district meets two weeks ago.
“I am very optimistic in having the largest number of qualifiers to make it to the regional meet in my 4 years of being the head girls coach,” John Barthels stated. “The girls are working hard every day to get better and to have their best times and distances of the year happen on Wednesday at home at the area track meet.”
Skylar Hurst continues her quest for taking first place as she has a clear vision of Bailey Drum and needing 23 more points to realize that goal.
Hurst will be entered in 5 events in next week’s Area Meet at the Hawk Nest and that would be a good time to come out and see this young lady as well as both the Boys and Girls that qualified after completing in the District 28-4A Meet at Fredericksburg last week.
There will be several Hawks that will be in the running for a trip to Kingsville for the Region Meet to be held the end of April.
Caimen McDonough has one of the best 300 meter hurdle times and Heath McDonough will have a chance of making another trip with his High Jump event.
The Girl’s 4×100 relay team will see if they can make it around the track as they too, have whittled down there time and will try to continue their trek.
Carley Dubois, Alysha Perez, Audrey Schulze, and Madison Churbe will attempt to break the 50 second barrier as these speedsters set their sights on Kingsville.
Canyon Lake All-Time Track & Field athletes are below and The ReSporter will have the Hawks that are in the Top Ten for points accumulated for their career and for this past season later this week.
The ReSporter hopes you enjoy seeing these students and how well they have performed over the years.
The Ladies Track team finished in 2nd place for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity at the recent District 28-4A Meet in Fredericksburg.
CL scored their most points in district play at this meet as the Hawks seemed poised to raise the bar with more solid athletes in the coming years.
Depth will also be on display this time next year as Canyon Lake will lose a handful of Seniors while graduating up a solid JV squad.
