“Matt Monzingo has been named the new Comal ISD Athletic Director effective at the end of May. Monzingo takes over for Jim Rodrigue, who passed away after a short illness in April. Monzingo has been the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Canyon Lake High School since it opened in 2007 and previously held the same position at Pflugerville Connally High School from 1996-2007.”

Canyon Lake Head Coach Matt Monzingo will be stepping down after 31 years of walking the sidelines.

“I told the football team yesterday,” Coach Monzingo said. “I have left three high school jobs and this one was a very….very tough thing to do.”

Coach Monzingo brought Canyon Lake up in a very….very quick manner. The Hawks won after just their second year and had a winning record and into the playoffs.

In the last four years Canyon Lake has made great strides, see if you can take these numbers in.

                         Def. Points
Year Off. Points Allowed Difference
2008 72 464 -392
2009 216 231 -015
2010 281 278 +003
2011 353 264 +089

Canyon Lake after starting in the hole by being eight games under .500, will now go into this next campaign needing just one win to reach the .500 percentage mark.

Last season the Hawk squad had three games scoring over fifty points, which put into perspective, gave the offense an average of 35.3 points per game.

A home record of 13-7 and road record of 7-13…the 1-2 record in the playoffs gives Coach Monzingo an overall record of 21-22.

Wins that will go down as marquee wins were plenty. The ReSporter would like to highlight the Top 5 wins in Monzingo’s reign.

#1. Sealy (2011) was the big dog that had had their way with Canyon Lake the year before winning 33-6. The win was complete as that game still ranks as one of the worst offensive games in the Hawks history even after counting their first year. (which The ReSporter does not have records)

Fast forward to the next year and you have a huge 38-34 see/saw victory which the offense had the best rushing game ever. Zach Henshaw ran up and down the field as this game had a Hawk offensive line that completely dominated this Sealy defensive team.

The game was an instant classic as both teams would not be denied in the second half. It was a back and forth affair and if you went to the concession stand, then you might have missed a score.

Henshaw finished with 297 yards rushing and with the help of Belcher and Covarrubias the offensive line contributed to 370 yards on the ground.

Neither team turned the ball over and nothing was left on the field after the clock sounded, ending the game.

#2. Blanco (2009) was the second win ever and the opening win for the ‘09 season. The home crowd would not see a loss that whole year and this win gave this Hawk team a sense of ‘we can beat anyone’ motif.

Quarterback Ross Wagliardo and receiver/defensive back Eric Nelson took matters into their own hands and handed Blanco a defeat and turned the tables on a team that had won the previous year, 63-0.

The 21-14 game was also dominated by a defense that would come to the rescue throughout the season.

Defensively, Canyon Lake only gave up one drive for a touchdown as the first Blanco score was a result of an interception return to paydirt.

The Hawks won the game in the fourth quarter as on two pass plays to Nelson and Christian Pena from Wagliardo.

Canyon Lake threw for over 300 yards, as Drew Riccio, Pena, and Nelson had 23 of the catches controlling the clock and the score for the shocker game putting the Hawks on the map.

#3. Burnet (2010) first playoff win for Canyon Lake was a sweet victory. The ReSporter spent the whole game in the pressbox behind the Burnet Radio play by play tandem.

The ReSporter will have to admit….listening to these two announcers as the game got close to the end of the game was vintage… ‘what just happened as the clock reached 0.00?’

Once again, Zach Henshaw and the offensive line totally controlled the Bulldogs from the get go. As all the Hawk points were scored in the first half, the defense held on for a win that no one but the fans on the visitor side of the stands knew had a chance for the victory.

This game was also a victory for a team that had been outclassed in the previous two encounters against their former district foe.

Up to that point in the history for CL, the rushing game had their best game reaching 293 yards on the ground with Henshaw (243) and Eduardo Covarrubias (63) yards.

Henshaw also scored all the touchdowns as Canyon Lake went into the halftime locker rooms up 27-7.

#4. Liberty Hill (2009) game was another payback game after being pasted the year before, 56-0.

Liberty Hill started the game with one of their patented rushing drives and pounded the Hawks all the way down the field taking a quick 7-0 score.

Little did anyone know, that would be their only score of the game. The win by CL kept Liberty Hill out of the playoffs which made the game even sweeter.

The Hawks also got timely turnovers and figured out Liberty Hill’s offense allowing Canyon Lake to score two times in the second half to pull out the win.

Nelson caught a 77 yard touchdown from Wagliardo with two minutes left in the third quarter that gave the Hawks the momentum to pull out the game.

Todd Pippin was the other recipient of a 13 yard pass play with nine minutes left in the game, still leaving way too much time for a win.

Credit the defense with this victory as they held on for the victory as the fans rushed the field afterwards.

#5. Navarro (2011) was the last of what The ReSporter would call in the top five wins.

Navarro was an eye opener the year before as they came to the Hawks home and ran all over the field. (literally) Without having all the records from the first year, the Panthers have as far as The ReSporter knows the most rushing yards ever…over 500 yards on the ground.

That game put a question mark on last year’s Hawk team as they were riding a five game winning streak and this would also be the first district game.

An electrical problem delayed the game over an hour to make things even more out of kelter.

Canyon Lake won this game in the fourth quarter as Henshaw’s touchdown with under a minute left in the third quarter finally put the Hawks ahead for good, 21-20.

Navarro controlled the clock again, but Canyon Lake controlled the scoreboard as the defense had enough stops to allow the Hawks to get separation.

Matt Magness was also a key ingredient as with two catches for 72 yards with one going for 62 yards from Quarterback Branson Belcher for a score.

The win would be the sixth in a row allowing CL to win a total of eight games for the season.

Coach Monzingo was the master builder for this club and the foundation has been set for more games like this in the future.

“I told the players that I was sorry we did not win the district,” Coach Monzingo ended. “But we were still champions!”

The ReSporter has learned that the position will be filled hopefully by the end of the school year.

Thanks Coach Monzingo for having your footprint in the makeup of Canyon Lake Football…that should allow whoever comes after you some good footing to step into the future.

The Bracken Christian Warriors started the process of replacing seven

Bracken Christian Spring Football has Started

Seniors from their final four team last season.

Players who lost their playing eligibility will result in many new faces in the trenches for the next season starting fall practice in 11 weeks.

Lost?
Grady Achilles
Peter Corey
Jordon McDaniel
Austin Wilkinson
Ty Zunker
Kevin Knapick
Ehren Jacobson

That is a pretty good roster of players that contributed many points, yards, touchdowns, tackles, and extra points.

What are the expectations for this upcoming season with that many players gone from the sideline? Coach Fields and his staff were busy checking out what might be in store when spring practice started last week and the evaluation process got started.

“We are going to be big,” Head Coach Lloyd Fields started. “There will no year after this one, for the Seniors…and we have two players that can’t go full as they are recovering from injuries.”

Two players being held out is not uncommon for football, but when the game is six-man then that can represent one third of your offense or defense.

Joel Butler was one of the players that found himself in the thick of replacing an All-State Kicker and Punter in Kevin Knapick.

“Joel (Butler) has won the extra point job,” Coach Fields said. “ We are still seeing who can win the kick-off position.”

“The kicker and all positions are equally important,” Butler said eloquently. “Quarterback to receiver to point after kicker…you have to have them all performing and they all work together for the team.”

Another important position for the team will be the spot that was held by Running Back Grady Achilles.

Connor Simmons has been waiting patiently for the chance. Simmons has averaged 23 yards per carry and of those six totes with the ball the soon to be Junior has scored four times.

The sample size is not that large, but you have to admit that those numbers sure look very Grady Achillesesque.

“I can’t be Grady, but I will be Connor,” Simmons said assuredly. “I’m fortunate to have Eli (Achilles) back to block for me.”

Eli Achilles will be returning for his fourth year taking the snap for Bracken and this experience will be huge for a team trying to find the pieces to the puzzle as the season matures next year.

Eli has a knack for wanting to hit anything that might have a different color jersey than the one he will be wearing. Whether the two way starter is playing offense or defense, the other team will be dodging this blocking machine during their game.

Hence, the comment from Simmons as he only knows that Grady was good, but without the blocking of Eli and the rest of the team, many of those yards might not of been possible.

Center and Corner Back Davis Scott will be returning as a Junior and this young man has been promoted as one of the Captains for next year’s team.

“I will be with Eli (as captain),” Scott started. “I have got to step up for leadership and be me…if we work hard then we can do it.”

On moving from Defensive End to Cornerback, Davis exclaimed, “I just have to go out and do the best I know how to do.”

This will be a jig saw year for the Coaches as they start the arduous job of seeing how and what this puzzle will be and look like. “That is the fun part of the game and why they pay us the big bucks,” Coach Fields said with dry humor.

The ReSporter will have more articles this week covering the BCS Warriors with more interviews from the players and Coaches.

placed sixth in their respective events this past weekend in Austin for the 3A-State Track Meet.

Marisa Ellis’ event (Triple Jump) was scheduled for Friday night and Ellis responded with a sixth place finish. Her 36-00.50, jump was off her previous best mark in the Region Meet two weeks ago, but the Junior can now concentrate on next season knowing what is possible as a Senior.

In our article earlier last week, you would have read where Ellis is not going to scratch and she followed through with her performance and not having a scratch on any of her jumps.

Ellis first jump was 34-07.75 and that had her in sixth place after the first round, where she ended up after her sixth jump.

The jump that solidified her placing was on her fourth try when she cleared 35-04.75, which had her a full foot further than the other three participants vying for placing in this event.

Ellis had her personal best jump two weeks ago when she cleared 37-04.50 in Corpus Christi.

This was the second year in a row for Canyon Lake Girls to score points at the State Track Meet. Jessica Cunningham competed in the Pole Vault last year for the Hawks.

Jordan Anderson was also scoring for the Hawks as this Junior improved his 400 Meter Dash time by almost a full second from his previous record two weeks ago in Corpus.

Anderson broke the 50 second mark two weeks ago with a first place run of 49.89. Now he has a sixth place run of 48.92 as he keeps raising the bar.

“Get out the gate,” Anderson jumped out of the blocks saying. “The first eight seconds were going to be critical and this was satisfying.”

This was the first time for a Hawk boy athlete running in Austin and being a Junior, it might not be his last.

Anderson improved on his 400 time by over five seconds from the first part of the season to the State Meet.

“I gave a 1000 percent,” Anderson said. “There were so many people there and I had a good lane (lane three).”

Will the two Juniors be back? Anderson was quick with his answer, “I’m in a very good position…the five guys that beat me were all seniors and this allowed me to put my toe in the water.”

“This year was not about my competition…getting my times down and being in good position was my goal. I will be in more events next year.”

Anderson did qualify for all five of the events he competed in for the Region Meet, but he took three events off the table to concentrate on just two for this season. The 400 and High Jump were the two events Anderson competed in the Region Meet with.

“The 100 Meter for sure,” Anderson said when talking about what events he wants to compete in if he qualifies for next year at State. “It was frustrating watching the winning time in that event knowing that you weren’t that far off.”

Now will be the first time in a while when Anderson will take a few days off, before getting ready for next season.

“This will be a good week of doing nothing,” Anderson sighed. “But now I can get into the skateboard season, start making videos, and some ballroom dancing.”

I can only imagine what ballroom dancing must be like for an athlete that can jump and is fast as Anderson…and I’m going to guess that his Video making will be in slow motion.

Coach Levi Montgomery will probably be praying that the Skateboard Season will go without any accidents.

And as fans that might have missed these two athletes in Track this year, will have a chance to catch their act next season as both Juniors will try to repeat next year.

They are a can’t miss dual. Congratulations!!

Meet and finished within the top 10 in both the girls and boys team.

Grady Achilles came into the meet with the goal of defending his 100 and 200 Meter Dash. For the third time!

Mission accomplished, as the Senior finished his athletic career for BCS as one if not the best male athlete for the Warriors.

“Grady has determination,” Head Coach Terri Sanders said. “He is very confident in his ability.”

Achilles seemed to be reaching this year’s meet without the consistency he had enjoyed in previous State Meets.

There are many interruptions being a Senior, Grady was finishing his recruiting during Track Season as well as Senior Trips and other events as he prepared for his final month in the BCS colors.

As will be the case for this remarkable young man, he finished his senior campaign like he finished his races in Waco….in First!

Grady Achilles makes it Three in a Row in the 100 and 200 Meter Relay

Grady Achilles was seeded first in the 100 Meter Dash and did not disappoint when he ran his best race of the year finishing in 11.11 for the event.

Good timing for not leaving any the other runners with hope.

The 200 Meter Dash would be a little different as Grady found himself seeded behind two other competitors and with the same resolve exploded for a 22.89 time beating his best for this season by .48, which also was faster than the best time for the year in the 2A division.

“Grady had ran well enough to qualify for the 200 Meter in Region,” Coach Sanders remembers. “He knew he could run it faster and win the race…the other runners knew what he was capable of doing.”

The race had Grady Achilles winning by over two tenths of a second over Garrison with Logos Prep School.

Katy Wilmotte also found herself on the podium with a second place finish in the 3200 run on Friday and third place running the 1600 on Saturday.

“On Katy’s 3200 run she looked relaxed and the weather was good,” Coach Sanders said. “She started out with the pack and then moved up with a girl from Abilene Christian.”

The Saturday 1600 run was during the heat of the day, Coach Sanders tried to help her distance runners, “We brought Katy and Barrett (Corey) to the track later in the morning since their race was in the afternoon…they (Katy and Barrett) were not as energetic or quite there.”

Barrett Corey also finished in third improving his time for the 3200 run for the year.

The 800 Meter Run had Erin Bownlee finishing fourth, “She is a persistent athlete, Coach Sanders interjected. “She kept fighting for that position and slowly worked her way up.”

“Brownlee also worked through her allergy issues for the Saturday race.”

Kevin Knapick finished his Senior year with a fourth place finish for the only ‘Field’ event (Discus) that had a Warrior entered.

“None of the Discus guys threw to their potential,” Coach Sanders observed. “The disc circle was College size which is smaller than high school and that made the throwers more apprehensive.”

Davis Scott was used for the boys 4×100 Relay when Knapick was nursing a slight pulled muscle, but the Relay team still had a very respectable fourth place finish.

“The handoffs were excellent and they were competing against fast people”, Sanders said proudly. “Austin Wilkinson and the others had to change their usual spots on the relay since Kevin (Knapick) and Eli Achilles had to move his spot based on his shoulder injury.”

As far as the girls 4×200 Relay, Coach Sanders was very happy. “We came out of the blocks and had good handoffs and finishing fourth was huge.”

Coach Terri Sanders finished with this incredible result for the 12 athletes that competed at the State level.

“To finish in the top six the athletes got All State recognition…I’m very happy all 12 athletes got All State!

(Jordan Anderson) break through the barrier and get to Austin?

Coach Levi Montgomery: “Jordan is a very talented young man. His work ethic matched his talent this season, and he deserves the success he has had. His going to the state meet is another first for Hawk Athletics, and we are proud of him.”

The ReSporter: Share some about the Seniors and what you would like the fans and other students to know about their years at CL.

Coach Montgomery: “Zach Henshaw and Marcus Bolles have been steady track athletes for us. They have led by example with their work ethic, and we will miss both of them.”

The ReSporter: “How do you see next year shaping up with who you will have coming up and staying?

Coach Montgomery: “We’ve got some quality athletes coming back. Covarrubias, Hubnik, Camarillo, and Anderson to name a few. As always, we will be looking for younger athletes to fill in the gaps.”

The ReSporter: How much do you know about the new ‘Freshman’ that will be here next year and how will that change the make up of next years Team?

Coach Montgomery: “They (Coaches with Mountain Valley Middle School) had a good number of kids that ran track. That’s always the key. If we can get the boys to come out for the sport, the rest will take care of itself.”

The ReSporter: Can hardly wait to see what type of team will come out for next season, thanks for a great year!

Marisa Ellis finishing Strong

this week as she attempts to Triple Jump her way for a medal in Austin.

Marisa, at our last writing was on a mission to have a personal best jump and clear the 37 foot mark. The distance had haunted this Junior for two years when she went to the Region Meet as a Freshman for Midlothian jumping just shy of that mark.

The distance was finally reached on her second to last jump in last weeks Region Meet in Corpus Christi when she hit 37’4.5”.

“I had jumped 36’8” and was in first for a while,” Ellis recounted. “Then two girls beat my jump on the second to last jump and I was in third.”

No pressure for Ellis as she still had two more jumps to get into second or first place and make the next round in Austin.

“I cleared the 37 foot mark on my next jump and it held up,” Ellis said matter-of-factly. “I really didn’t chance it.”

Ellis is a very calculated athlete when it comes to the triple jump. When asked if she would chance a better jump and try to get closer to the mark she responded, “I pretty much will not be risking a scratch and will jump the same…I don’t like to scratch.”

It will give you the idea of the tortoise and the hare in that the rabbit might chance it too many times and end up not having their best run or jump, while Ellis will be consistent and instead of risking the jump, will work with what has gotten her to this point of the year.

Hopefully it might be that strategy getting Ellis to a great finish.

Which, by the way, she will be jumping at the pinnacle in Texas….The State Track Meet.

When asked how her practices had gone this past week, Marisa exclaimed, “There is not much I can really do for this year…I’m working on using my arms and hopefully that will allow me to to get my ‘PR’ (Personal Record).”

You have got to admire the nerve for Ellis as she prepares for the meet this weekend.

Ellis does not seem to get rattled, which was evident in the Region Meet and based on her demeanor during this interview, you can only deduce she will be in control on the biggest stage in Track and Field.

One thing is for sure, this Canyon Lake Junior will calculate her jumps and will give herself a chance to jump into history.

Ellis has been non-stop in her first year for the Hawks, as she started the end of July preparing for the Volleyball Season then to Basketball Season and now she is the only girl standing or jumping in the middle of May.

The ReSporter wishes her luck and hoping for a great finish to one of the best years for Girl’s Athletics at this young school.

Just like Jordan Anderson who will be running the 400 Meter Dash for the boys Track Team, Marisa Ellis has made us proud and we are sure she, Three Jumps, her way to Canyon Lake history, you have made us Proud and thanks!

That number could of been higher if he competed in all the events he was qualified to run in Corpus Christi Regional Meet last week.

So seven meets and 250 points with one more chance to add to that total this next week in Austin. Pretty impressive for any athlete.

“I felt myself breaking down,” Anderson started. “So, I decided to put all my eggs in two baskets, the 400 and High Jump.”

Anderson had qualified for five events and before the Regional Meet he had whittled down his events to only two the 400 Meter Dash and High Jump.

The prelims in the Regional Meet would have the participants running just once and based on their time, they would know if they would get to run in the finals the next day.

In Anderson’s heat he found himself in sixth place and he had to wake up in time to be able to qualify for the finals.

He qualified and then ran his best time ever on Saturday which gave him a chance to run again.

Anderson has also improved on every event from the previous year and he even added an additional event with the 400 Meter Run.

Looking at the information above, you will see that is the one event that he did not run last season.

The times for the 400 Meter Dash from other State qualifiers shows seven runners with better times presently than what Anderson ran in Corpus Christi last weekend.

What cannot be quantified would be how hard the wind might of been blowing at other Regional Meets.

What we do know is Meets near the Gulf Coast will result in wind blowing almost all of

Jordan Anderson taking a Stand

the time which was the case during the Region Meet.

“Placebo effect,” Anderson dead panned on how the wind will play into his run. “Running against the wind is not something I worry about.”

You can see how the wind can play into runners all the time and when it starts to happen, their run can be compromised based on how this thinking could psych them out.

Based on Anderson’s answer, you might think the wind will not be a problem.

“It was really windy at Corpus,” Anderson finally admonished.

On how he will run the 400 Dash, Anderson shared some of his strategy, “I can win the 400, I just see where I am at the 300 mark on the second turn…the last 100 meters is when I want to reel everyone in.”

Has Anderson run his fastest 400 this season? “I can get into the 48 second level and I can win the 400,” Anderson said confidently.

Anderson would not strike you as a track phenom, if you bumped into him walking to the State Meet, you would want to know if he had his ticket to get in the meet.

When asked what type of training he would be doing to prepare for the meet, “I have fast twitched muscles and so I will do some heavy squats and some explosive training…with long legs and being fast will equal into speed.”

“God is in control,” Anderson said when responding to how he can keep his focus. “I can’t do this by myself…there are scriptures in the Bible about running and doing your best to Glorify Him with your running.”

The ReSporter wanted to know where Jordan got some of his wisdom as he prepared for his race in the Region Meet.

“I went to bed a lot earlier this year (at the Region Meet), so some of my wisdom came from common sense,” Anderson was recalling how late he stayed up the year before as a sophomore. “My parents had me in a separate room and I treated my time as a business trip…asking God to put it in His Hands….and that helped me meet my goal in the 400.”

“My Step Mom went to State in the 400 as a Freshman and she is a nutritional guru, and so that also helped me in realizing my goal.”

Canyon Lake has a chance to score points for the first time in the Boys Track ledger.

Watching this young man has been a pleasure this season. Lucky for others he is just a Junior and will have a chance to see how much lower he might improve for next year.

Finish strong and you have made our community proud. Good Luck!!

concentrating more on the Track than the Field part at the State Meet starting this Friday and Saturday in Waco.

Bracken will be competing in the 2A Division and the top four finishers qualified for the right to represent their school before the school year closes.

BCS will have 12 students vying for the chance to bring home more hardware from this track season.

Katy Wilmotte finished first in the 3200 Meter Run at the Regional Meet. Her second place finish in the 1600 Meter Run will also allow her to garner more points for the Team.

Wilmotte finished with a time of 13:09 last year competing as a Sophomore at the State Meet and she qualified two weeks ago with a best time of 12:53 for this season.

The good news is that the 3200 and 1600 Meter Runs will be run on two different days giving those runners time to recoup from that draining race.

“Katy finished third at State last year,” Head Coach Terri Sanders started. “She knows what she is capable of doing and with the right stride and with her confidence will allow her to finish strong.”

Wilmotte was one of the major contributors for the State Champion Cross Country team earlier this Fall Season.

“She will know the field and who the rabbits are and the 2A South Region is strong,” Coach Sanders continued. “Katy trains hard and never loses control.”

Barrett Corey will also be running the 3200 and 1600 meter runs in the meet. Corey finished second and third respectfully at the South Region Meet.

“This is very good distances for Barrett,” Coach Sanders noted. “He is practicing well and he is healthy and once again the South Region is tougher giving him a good chance for a good showing.”

Corey has run a five minute 1600 and 11:18 for the 3200 Meter Run this season.

Kevin Knapick will be representing BCS as the only Field event participant. Kevin finished second at the South Region in the Discus and has a best throw of 120 feet this year.

Coach Sanders was complimentary of Kevin, “He has great form and technique, he has been much more consistent with his throws this year…last year the winner had a throw of 142 feet and the second place finisher had 117 feet….this should help give him a chance to make All State.”

Senior Grady Achilles is not a stranger to this venue, this young man is the defending State Champion in both the 100 and 200 Meter Dash.

With that being said, Grady’s third place finish in the 200 Meter Dash at the Regional Meet might give other runners a sense of this being his waterloo.

“He (Grady) felt tight and he knew to go to State he would just have to finish in the top four runners to advance,” Coach Sanders said. “He played it wise not to chance an injury so now he can concentrate for this week.”

Grady has a best of 10.80 in the 100 Meter and 23.20 for the 200 Meter Dash this season.

Those two runs would put Mr. Achillies in the UIL 3A State Meet giving you a good indication of where he wants to finish his Senior year….on the Medal Stand.

Grady will also have another chance for Gold running in the 4×100 Meter Relay.

Austin Wilkinson, Davis Scott, Eli Achilles, and Grady Achilles will be trying to improve on there 45.6 best this campaign.

“We had ugly hand offs so it was huge to make it,” Coach Sanders said in commenting on the Relay team finishing in third place at the Regional Meet. “Austin (Wilkinson) had issues with his knee right before District, but if our hand offs are as they should be then we will have a chance to win.”

Coach Sanders has changed the order of the Relay Team and hopes that might help improve on their time.

Eli Achilles is coming off shoulder surgery and Davis Scott is replacing Knapick after he had hamstring problems and now you can see how this team will need to be clicking on all cylinders to reel the other schools in for a chance to place and/or win this event.

The Girls 4×200 Relay team of Sierra Rayl, Kimmie Burbank, Hannah Moore, and Karagan Day ran a season best of 1:55.50 and finished third at the Regional Meet.

Rayl and Moore are Freshman and the youth continues with Day finishing her Sophomore year, while Burbank is the elder statesman as a Junior.

“I will be amazed when I see the results from this group of girls,” Coach Sanders said excitedly. “I changed the order of this foursome by bringing Burbank out of the blocks and finishing with Moore on the anchor.”

“They have not been as consistent on the hand offs and experience will make them better…Sierra is a good runner and Hannah, you don’t want to get in her way…she has a lot of perseverance and will do whatever she can to finish strong….All these girls will fight.”

Erin Brownlee finished fourth in the 800 Meter Run in her last meet and will look for finishing strong this weekend.

“Erin is a fighter and if she gets within reach of the pack, then she will get it,” Coach Sanders said confidently. “She knows her competition and she has great determination and will get the job done….she is just a good athlete and she trains hard.”

Brownlee ran a 2:33.00 at her qualifying meet and based on what Coach said above, her fourth place finish could just be as easy with a higher finish.

Bracken Christian takes the cinders starting this Friday and The ReSporter can hardly wait to report on how these athletes performed next week.

Good Luck Bracken Warriors!!
