Hawk’s Make 11 Three Pt. Shots in Loss to Boerne, 74-56

Canyon Lake had one of their best shooting games in their loss to Boerne last Friday night.

The Hawks went crazy beyond the arc in this game setting a new Canyon Lake record for three pointers in this game.

A record 11 three point shots made on just 18 attempts beat Canyon Lake’s old record of 9 shots made from the outer limits three years ago in a game against San Antonio Lutheran in the CL Tournament.

Record Three Point Games
Year Team Date 3pt/Shot Percentage
'12-13 Boerne 02/01/13 11/18 61%
'10-11 SA Lutheran 12/10/10 9/28 32%
'10-11 Blanco 12/20/11 8/20 40%
'09-10 Bandera 01/09/10 8/24 33%
'09-10 Lehman 11/24/09 7/17 41%
'10-11 Fredericksburg 01/11/11 7/18 39%
'10-11 Randolph 12/28/10 7/19 37%

Another slow start put CL on a steep hill to climb for the rest of this game. With just 20 points in that first half you can make an argument that two quarters like the last two with 38 points might have had the just right amount of pressure on those Greyhounds.

To no avail but it did allow Canyon Lake to open it up and respond accordingly with a red hot finish from the floor.

Andrew Riali was the ring leader with a five out of six shots behind the arc. Four other Hawks had a made shot from long distance.

Caleb Kreiger was a perfect two for two while Paul Davis also place two shots into the basket from outside.

Guards Doug Hubnik and Chandler Faulkner completed this onslaught.

The bad news was Boerne also having a bullseye on their bucket shooting 57% from the field and 44% from three point land.

“We shot the ball really well, which kept us in the game until about three minutes left,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman said. “Give them (Boerne) credit on offense. I felt like we played really solid ‘D’ and they just shot the ball really well.”

“When they have five guys on the floor who can shoot it and drive it, then that makes them really hard to guard,” Coach Chapman continued. “That’s why they are one of the best teams in the State.”

Riali and Kreiger led in scoring with 15 points each. Doug Hubnik keeps raising the bar on Assists each game with eight in this game.

Hubnik now sits with 136 assists this year with right at five per game.

Kreiger is also setting the bar high for blocks this season as he ended this game with four, raising his total to 56 for the year.

“Overall, I was pleased with our effort, toughness and focus,” Coach Chapman finished. “It could have been real easy for our guys to pack it in and just try to get the game done, but we competed hard for 32 minutes and that’s all you can really ask for. We have talked about ending the season the right way and tonight was a good step in that direction.”
