Tuesday Sports Recap for The Hawks

McKenna Beseda making the play

Hawks lost every game played on Tuesday night and so The ReSporter will just do an overall recap for all those games below.

Stats will be for the games that Coaches sent to us.

In Soccer, Canyon Lake Boys continue a season with very few smiley faces to show for their work. As has been mentioned, Soccer has a task of facing larger schools and winning is always a challenge.

That hopes to change in the near future with a new alignment possibility but for now CL is still hoping for a win against Wimberley this Friday as they will close out their season.

Canyon Lake played Dripping Springs tough in their first go around, losing 1-0, but Tuesday night they were outscored 4-0 in the loss.

Girls Soccer has had more success than the boys and will soon have a chance to participate in the postseason after this Friday’s game with Wimberley.

Dripping Springs has a dominant team and once again beat CL, 6-0 which might have been suspected after losing their first game, 8-0. The Springs has clinched first place in District 53-4A play.

Friday is a big day for CL, as a win over Wimberley, will put the Hawks in a game with a second seeded team from District 54-4A.

Boerne Champion would be that opponent and if the Hawks lose, then SA Alamo Heights would be their opponent. Either team would be a tough out, but any advantage would be nice for this young group of ladies.

Baseball took another tough loss in extra innings to highly ranked Boerne, 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Boerne is ranked 2nd and 4th in two polls in the State of Texas. This was the second loss in a row in extra innings for the Hawks after surrendering a two run lead.

These games are becoming very painful and hopefully the baseball gods will start to smile on this team of hard workers.

Having a two run lead over a top 5 team going into the later innings is certainly a high note, but now a win would be a better pillow to sleep on.

Logan Felch and Peyton Sipila who had two hits both scored runs in this contest, with rbi’s from J. J. Nance and Felch.

Cody Powell pitched an impressive game against this tough Greyhond squad. How tough?

Here are some scores of some of their games:
 Boerne 6 Liberty Hill 1
 Boerne 10 Hutto 3
 Boerne 11 Llano 1
 Boerne 12 Victoria East 5
Boerne 6 St. Paul II 0
 Boerne 15 Navarro 6
 Boerne 5 Fredericksburg 2
 Boerne 16 Bandera 0

Working those numbers and you have a team that averages over 10 runs when they are winning. Powell could not have done a much better job in holding this potent team to one earned run.

Canyon Lake will go to bat again this Friday when Navarro comes to town with hopes of a better outcome….the Hawks certainly deserve a better ending.

The Hawks Softball team also started their District 27-3A season with a loss to Fredericksburg, 10-3.

Notable take aways from this contest was in year’s past when CL has faced a dominating pitcher you could count on a lot of strikeouts and very few hits.

“We probably hit as good as we have all year,” Head Coach John Gallagher started. “The score was a little deceiving, overall we played pretty well.”

This game had the Billie pitcher striking out 12 Hawks but also CL was able to scrap 10 hits in this contest. Having a double figure strikeout and hitting game is certainly a rarity and has probably not happened in the short history of this program.

Alexis Robinson had a hard time finding the strike zone and with some hits thrown into the mix resulted in the seven run loss.

“We played a very good team who has good hitters, a good pitcher who knows how to win,” Coach Gallaher said. “We never let up and battled the whole game. This was a very good learning experience to build on the rest of the way.”

Fredericksburg is a tough place to start district play, but you have to play all the teams eventually so now this Hawk team will come home for a game with Bandera this Friday as Canyon Lake will be busy with a lot of action.
