games were completed last night. The Hawks trucked on Navarro, 9-1 with a 4 run sixth inning that put this truck in coasting gear.

“Kids are playing well and they love to play the game,” Head Coach Trent Dunavant started. “They just want to win and we have guys that are ready to do, when they are called on.”

Cody Powell struck out 9 Panthers in his 5 innings of work while giving up just one hit.

“Defense always backs us (pitchers up,” Powell said.

Powell and Tanner McGill combined for a one hittler.

Powell had been running into trouble in this middle innings and that was the fourth in this game, but this time the damage was minimal and CL won their third district contest.

On that one pitch that resulted in a hit, “I had a high curve ball and he got a hold of it,” Powell pitched.

“He (Coach) tells me to take a deep breath and just pitch like it is batting practice,” Powell comments on his fourth inning of trouble. “We have a lot of chemistry and there are a lot of positives with this team and we just need to ‘keep on trucking’.”

Nick Cahill, JJ Nance, and Austin Headrick each responded with 2 rbi as the Hawks only used three innings to score all 9 runs.

Navarro had scored in that fourth inning to draw within two runs in this game.

Then designated hitter, Headrick sent the ball in the gap for a two-run triple in the top of that fifth inning and answered Navarro’s run. Those 4 runs gave the Hawks a nice cushion and put this teem back in the driver’s seat.

“I took a deep breath and hit his first pitch, I knew it was going to be a fast ball because he (pitcher) had been pitching that same pitch to our other hitters,” Headrick deduced. “This win is a good motivator and will push us forward, there is still a lot to do and we know we can come out on top.”

Canyon Lake kept the pressure on when they closed the game with four hits in the sixth, with four more runs and what would be a final, 9-1 score.

In that inning, TJ Jones opened with a single and was moved to second on a Tanner McGill sacrifice.

Peyton Sipila singled putting runners on the corners and JJ Nance singled both players home.

Garrett Winters, who had reached base on each of his at bats, singled and that hit scored speedster Nance and Winters would score on a wild pitch to close the scoring after a walk to Nick Cahill.

Now the schedule will be two game sets with each district team that will determine who might make the playoffs.
