CL Hawks Get Momentum in Win over Yoakum, 60-35

Canyon Lake has now made it official as they walloped Yoakum by 25 points in their win to leave no doubt that they deserve their first playoff game in the history of CL Hawks Basketball.

“I am very pleased with how we played,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman started. “We did exactly what we needed to do and built some momentum going into the playoffs.”

A lot of things went right in this game with the Bulldogs as they won each quarter by adding to the lead throughout the contest.

“We started off slow, but really picked it up and play with much better energy the rest of the game,” Coach Chapman assessed.

Gerit Wilkins finished the game with 7 assists as his command of the offense continues to impress as the game gets into a win or go home time of year.

Jacob Ramirez has been working on getting his offense back into his game since he was absent from the team as district play had started and now finds himself back in the groove.

How much of a grove? How about 23 points and being the only Hawk in double digits but having his outside shot going in was a welcomed sight for the Coaches and fans as the Hawks now prepare for Taylor.

Putting this win in perspective for Canyon Lake, the Hawks have never had more than 3 district wins since the team was formed back in ’08-’09 year.

Not only did CL reach 6 wins this season in district play, but those six wins is more than double the number reached back during the ’09-’10 and ’14-’15 campaigns.

From the ’10-’11 to last season, Canyon Lake had a total of 5 district wins adding all those seasons together and now during this set of games, the Hawks reached a high level mark with 6 wins.

The Hawks are also just one win away from matching their most wins of 14 reached back during the ’09-’10 season.

This game had 18 assists which matched the number of turnovers in this affair. Having those turnovers below 20 per game has also been a big improvement and as good as any reason for the success.

Seeing the Hawks at the top in all of those stat lines above has helped this team reach never before heights as they prepare for Taylor.

What is needed now is a game to show CL has arrived and that can be taken this next game as a 4th seed vs. 1st seed might give you an idea of a game without any hope, but actually the opposite is true this time around as Canyon Lake has been at the front door knocking this whole season.

Now this team has to figure out how to get inside and finding those keys for entrance might be just one game away.

Go Hawks!!
