CLJV Pulls Away in 13 Point Win over Navarro, 51-38

Sharpshooter Sam Schimank scored 16 points in Win over Navarro

Canyon Lake’s JV continues to play at a high plateau after another convincing battle this time against the Navarro Panthers winning, 51-38 on the road last Friday night.

The scoring was dominated by Sam Schimank from the outside and Michael Harwell from the inside. Both players had their moments that helped carry the Hawks to this win after starting the tip-off with a tie ending the first quarter 13 all.

From there to the final horn, CL was in total control with a mind boggling 18 steals. In the first half Canyon Lake had 13 of those thefts which kept the Panthers with their paws trying to pass or shoot the ball.

That defense was impressive but the offense did their job as well with 13 assists and getting the ball to an open man paid dividends as all the guards combined for every assist.

Harwell was the main Hawk with the steals totaling 6 and leading the team cleaning the glass with 9 for this 13 point victory.

For the last 3 games, Harwell has had an impressive set of contests as he has shot 76% from the field on 16 out of 21 shots with 10 steals. Those numbers along with the sharp shooting from Schimank allowed CL to forge to a, 30-15 score for those two middle stanza’s helping the last quarter being put into cruise control.

     Go Hawks Beat the Texans

Canyon Lake has almost every part of their game in high gear and with some honing on some free throw skills this group of players would be lapping the field this season.

Starting the 2nd quarter, Canyon Lake was on the Panthers like a, June Bug is on a Peach, with a quick 6 points and after a Navarro bucket cutting the lead to 4 points, it would be the closest this game would be for the remainder of this contest.

CL’s largest lead was realized after a Ben Fulton lay-up that was proceeded by a barrage of Schimank’s 3 pointers.

Within a span of 2 minutes, Schimank had three straight makes from the outer limits with two assists coming from Jeremy Duncan and Fulton getting into the act for an easy assist to end the carnage.

“I got into a rhythm early,” Schimank scored from an assist. “We played defense at a high level and that helped step up our scoring.”

Schimank was right in that assessment by using those two middle quarters and playing at a high level on both sides of the hardwood.

                      Go Hawks

“We started playing with more confidence,” Schimank continued. “We will need to keep practicing hard and mentally play at a high level by staying focused and staying on track.”

The Hawks would pull back this offensive onslaught in that last quarter as CL took the air out of the ball in not wanting to embarrass the home town Panthers.

Canyon Lake will be on the road again this coming Tuesday when they travel the Devil’s Back Bone and hope they can capture some of those same moves the Bus will traverse in getting the team to Wimberley.
