CL Lady Hawks Take Down JC Eagles, 58-26

Basketball is a non-contact sport. Not!

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks win last non-district contest when they out flew the Johnson City Eagles, 58-26.

The Hit Man says Go Lady Hawks!!

Now the important part of the season will commence when CL opens their District 28-4A contests next Tuesday away against Boerne.

“We are more confident,” Head Coach Zach Burleson said. “I feel we can overcome adversity and we are more skilled than we were last year at this time.”

“We came out flat in this game,” Coach Burleson continued. “But, we know what we are doing.”

Baskeball IQ is an important ingredient as this group of Hawks seem dialed in on what needs to be done when that district schedule gets going in a week.

But is was a slow start to this game as the Eagles were leading 9-7 with just under 4 minutes left in that 1st period. Two minutes later, Reagan Heun found Marley Carrizales under the basket for a lay up and a Hawk lead that was not relinquished for the rest of the contest, 11-9.

  Go Hawks!

Heun finished with 19 points leading the Hawks in scoring with Chelsea Tschoepe pitching in 13 points, as those were the only players to finish with double figures for this game.

Canyon Lake would take control of the battle by outscoring JC, 29 points in the final 3 quarters as the Hawks mainstay being defense started to jell in keeping the Home Team scoring just 7 points in those last two periods.

Shooting 50% from the field did the trick as Canyon Lake was successful in getting that bad day of shooting out of their mouths during the Comfort Tournament on that second day of competition.

Chelsea Tschoepe has only one miss in win over Johnson City.

Tschoepe missed just one shot during the game as a shot would usually result in a made field goal during this contest for the Sophomore sharp shooter.

“Our whole day was slow,” Tschoepe commented. “We got more aggressive during starting the 2nd half.”

That was certainly a truism, as CL clamped down on the Eagles and made life difficult for Johnson City.

“It was all about our defense,” Tschoepe said eloquently.

Defense has been the operative word for how this CL team has forged out to a 22-5 record going into district play.

Every Hawk had steal in the game and the 13 assists will give a good indication on how well this team can find that open player as their court awareness continues to improve.

The Hawks had a winning record this time last year and proceeded to end the year with a losing streak as CL struggled with their play against district opponents.

Mima's says good game Freshman Hawks!!

        Way to Go Lady Hawks!!

“We are pretty confident,” Tshcoepe said while commenting on where this team was compared to the year before. “We have been playing with the older girls and we are contributing more this year.”

Another truism as another year of game action has seen this group of Sophomores come together as the last quarter had those 5 Sophomores playing as a high skill level, as Canyon Lake, outscored Johnson City by 14 points during that last period.
