Canyon Lake Ladies Basketball clear first hurdle in securing a chance for post-season play after a gutty, 40-35 win over Wimberley.

Signature Homes says, Go Hawks!

“It was a good win for us,” Head Coach Zach Burleson started. “You know that it is a difficult place to play and we handled the stress and adversity. So proud of how we pulled together and kept our composure. We came out hot to start the game and we were able to hold off their runs. Rebounded the ball better in the second half, as we got into foul trouble again early. I thought we did a pretty good job of handling that…everyone contributed in a positive way.”

Marley Carrizales (15 points & 7 rebounds) and Chelsea Tschoepe (10 points & 8 rebounds) led the way as this second round of District 28-4A continues. The win evens the score, after a one point loss to the Texans in their first contest.

CL did not waste time after staking a nine point advantage in that opening quarter, 14-5. Defense and Offense was in sync and The Lake would lead throughout in this road victory.

Another dominant rebounding effort kept the Home team to several one and done trips but that on many occasions was nullified after committing 28 turnovers.

Canyon Lake started this final phase of games needing to outdo Bandera and Llano after all three schools ended that first round with identical district records (1-4). A Hawk sweep of those two teams would help in securing a playoff spot.

That one wild-card would come down to beating a team other than those two. As this district is dominated by Fredericksburg and Boerne, leaving Wimberley the most likely team to turn the tables after the last round one point loss.

The Texans finished the first round, 3-2 and a win over CL’s Back-Bone Rival would go a long way in their playoff quest.

Llano started this 2nd round of district battles with a loss to the Texans and seeing what Bandera will do can give your Hawks a good idea of those avenues in making their entrant for more games.

                  Let’s Go Hawks!!

Canyon Lake will have another tough road game in Bandera on Tuesday next week and a win there would clinch a play-off and a possible outright 3rd seed (with a Wimberley loss to Bandera) or some sort of tie-breaker for those Back-Bone Neighbors for those last two spots.

Of course any win over a Fredericksburg or Boerne team would be an extra bonus but that would be considered a major upset and not a likely scenario.

Another decent free throw result played a large row in this win while getting 4 steals a piece from Carrizales and Tschoepe became dividends.

Tschoepe had two blocks and now finds herself joining Reagan Heun as the only Canyon Lake players to be placed in the Top-10 in every category in their tenure on the hardwood.
