Baseball: Hawks Green Team Rides the Waves to Victory, 8-2

Canyon Lake’s Green Baseball Team won their 10th game of the season after a clinching 7 run 2nd inning that left the Hawks with an 8-2 victory over the Austin Waves on Wednesday night.

             Let’s Go Hawks!!

That barrage of runs were the result of back-to-back triples off the bat of Andrew Miller (3 rbi) and Luke Roskin who also started on the mound and giving up just one hit in three innings of work.

“I think we are working well together and we have lots of talent on the team,” Head JV Coach Kyle Hejnicki stated when asked his thoughts on this year’s Green team.

Thoughts on the team’s offense and the goals as the season rounds 3rd base, “Our goal is to win the district championship and we got the pieces and we are doing well as a team and having fun.”

Miller was poignant when asked bout his hit and thoughts on this year’s team, “I think we are working together well and we can throw lots of strikes. On the triple, I sat on the off speed pitch and just guessed that his next pitch would be a fast ball!”

Andrew Miller triple helped in win over Austin Waves.

That ball was crushed to the centerfield wall as it cleared the bases and helped spell doom for the Waves by getting enough separation for a win.

Miller responded on what this group of players excel in, “Everyone gets a chance to do something.”

Zach Elson and Gibby Martinez helped jettison the offense as the first two batters in the line-up and reached base 7 of the 8 times that kept the pressure on the Waves defense and pitchers.

Meanwhile Roskin and Gage Gibbons combined with a 3 hitter while giving up just one walk while striking out so many waves (9) that the Hawks brought out their surfboards after the game to cool off.

    Go Hawks!!

That best stat is allowing only one base runner via a walk which is a game changer for Junior Varsity games (or any game for that matter).

The Hawk Green team will be back in action this Saturday at the Hawk Nest with first pitch at 10:00am against Llano Yellowjackets.

Come and see the future of Hawk Baseball and stay for the Varsity game to follow at 1:00pm.
