Canyon Lake took the Bull out of the Dogs and taking a 16 run win over Bandera staying in a first place tie with the Wimberley-Boerne duo.

All the top three schools in District 28-4A standings made their presence known with convincing wins and setting up a two game series this week with the Greyhounds and Texans.

The Lake split their series with Wimbo and swept the Greyhounds so those situations will give an idea of where each team will be seeded for their post-season.

It these two schools split their games then Canyon Lake will win District 28-4A outright if your Hawks can win both of their games against Davenport. A Hawk split would have a 3 way tie and an abacus.

If Davenport sweeps Canyon Lake then a 3rd place finish would likely be CL’s spot. Once again, that would change based on a Greyhound or Texan sweep and a tie with that losing school and a tie breaker for a 2nd or 3rd seed. A Wimbo sweep would plant CL as a 2nd seed based on winning two over Boerne.

Canyon City Grill says Go Hawks!

The rest of the seeding answers will be based on CL winning two against the Wolves.

A Texan sweep has Canyon Lake with a play-in or coin flip with Wimbo for determining where each school would stand with a 1st or 2nd place. Boerne would be in 3rd place.

A Boerne sweep will give your Hawks a first place finish based on CL sweeping Boerne two weeks ago.

We can also deduce the 4th seed is between Davenport and Freddie and the Billies will be playing Bandera and a sweep which is highly likely would put the Wolves in a must sweep category over the Hawks for a chance to continue their season with a play-in game against the Billies.

Clear as mud? After Tuesday, the mud, will be getting less muddy and a Boerne win would have CL in first place with a win over Davenport. Canyon Lake will be working on raising their home record to 10-1 with a win. That loss was to SA Johnson who is tied for 2nd in their district sporting a 10-2 record and an overall tally of 18-8-1.

             Let’s Go Hawks!!

“On Tuesday, Davenport has the ability to beat us,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla stated. “We have two days to get better and be ready and letting it go on Tuesday night.”

The Hawks got it going last Friday while streaking to a win over Bandera and will now embark on their last district series against Davenport starting at the Hawk Nest this Tuesday with first pitch at 7:00pm.

Canyon Lake did not waste any time while spotting these Bulldogs with two quick outs before Chase Anderson tripled and Griffen Williams was up next with a single driving in Chase for what would be all the runs needed in this, 16-0 win.

Now with a 6 game home winning streak, CL will take their first step in trying to sweep newcomer Davenport for a chance to stake a claim as a baseball district champion.

This Bandera win was Head Coach Victor Escamilla’s 100th game at Canyon Lake and now carries a 61% winning percentage in his 4th year.

All CL would need is one win against Davenport and the Hawks would have 7 and their most victories during a season in district play.

Go Hawks and Get More Hits!

The Lake took all doubt in who would be in control after scoring 9 runs in the 2nd frame sending 15 players to the plate. Six Hawks reached with a walk, four hits, and two Hawks via an error.

Tanner Schultz had a triple driving in 3 runs and a double off the bat of Tyler Pauly. It was Schultz first triple and Pauly’s double has this Senior on the door step of being the all-time leader in two-baggers with 16 and needing 3 more to reach Travis Walker’s 19 back in 2012,

Pauly started slow on the mound but heated up in finishing with 7 strikeouts and giving up one hit and walking one Bulldog. That was the extent of Bandera’s offense and a perfect Peyton McMullen striking out the side in his one inning of work and closing the door on this Bulldog team.

Since the Fredericksburg series, The Lake has a .377 team batting average, .496 on base percentage, and a lofty .518 slugging percentage in those 7 games. Contrast those numbers for a team that had a .287 batting average, .406 on base percentage and .365 slugging percentage from the start of the season to that Fredericksburg outing.

Those are streaking numbers that, if they can continue, will hopefully help this team in lifting up a 28-4A Championship Trophy by winning out over a tough Davenport club.

The Wolves have some decent wins and should not be taken lightly with only having to retreat to that first battle with the Billies 3 weeks ago that finished with a loss. That game was 6 games ago and now CL will look to increase their 6 game winning streak to 8 games.

Good Times and Go Hawks!!
