Gabby Barnes No-Hitter puts Hawks in Battle with Texans

Hawks taking it all in after another Must Win over Davenport.

CL Hawks Softball did it again and this time in style after Gabby Barnes tossed a no-hitter in a win over Davenport, 6-0 and that now has The Lake in a play-in scenario against Wimberley.

              Way to Go Hawks!!

Bi-District is against District 27-4A schools and that would pit Canyon Lake against La Vernia if they can secure a 3rd seed or a game with Navarro having a 4th seed.

CL and Davenport was scoreless through the first 4 innings before the Hawks were able to get what would be the winning run after Emma Lane started this frame with a single into left field. Shelby Porter sacrificed Lane to 2nd base then stole 3rd base.

A Hawk strikeout before Gabby Rivera reached base after being hit by a pitch which set up Erin Hartman’s single driving in Lane for a Hawk, 1-0 lead.

CL insurance was in abundance when the Hawks scored 5 runs in the 6th inning and Porter started the frame with a single followed by a Madison DeLeon sacrifice bunt that put Porter in scoring position. Porter scored on Erin Hartman’s fielder choice an a Wolf error on Sayles at bat scoring Rivera.

Jodi Glenn-MIllhouse kept the inning going with a single driving Hartman and a, 4-0 cushion. Another Hawk score on another error would have Barnes helping her cause with a single driving in the final Hawk run for a, 6 run lead with just two innings remains for the Home team.

Gabby Barnes pitches no-no and Hawks have another date with Wimberley.

CL’s defense was perfect in the bottom of the 6th inning then Barnes would seal the deal after striking out the last two Wolves and a no-hitter which has been a rare occurrence that is certainly the case for a game going 7 innings.

A good way to keep the momentum with this having CL going into their contest with the Texans having a 4-2 record to finish district play. The Hawks first shut out of the season shows the type of improvement needed when that next phase will be a, win or go home, for playoffs.

Next up will be a chance for CL to secure a 3rd seed when they play at Wimberley on Thursday starting at 6:00pm. If the Hawks are a 4th seed then next up would be Navarro while a win over WHS puts La Vernia as their next opponent to play for Bi-District.

Below is an accurate standings for CL’s district and the 27-4A standings are based on Navarro and La Vernia winning their games against Cuero and Gonzales. Could change but not likely.
